On Saturday, Ukraine urged the West to give them permission to launch strikes deeper into Russia. The call was made after Russia carried out drone and artillery attacks into Ukraine overnight.

Ukrainian Presidential Adviser Andriy Yermak stated on Saturday that Russian terror begins at weapons depots, airfields, and military bases inside Russia. He emphasized that allowing strikes deep into Russia would help solve the ongoing conflict.

Ukrainian officials have been asking their allies to allow the use of Western-provided long-range weapons to target locations deep inside Russia. Currently, the US has only permitted the use of American-provided weapons in a limited area near the Ukraine-Russia border.

US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed the possibility of allowing long-range strikes during their meeting but no decision was immediately announced.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been pushing for the use of Western weapons to target air bases and launch sites as Russia continues its assaults on Ukraine’s infrastructure.

The ongoing conflict has led to casualties, with one person killed by Russian artillery in Ukraine’s Sumy region and three more people killed in a Russian strike in Huliaipole. Meanwhile, Moscow has warned that long-range strikes could escalate tensions between Russia and Western nations.

A prisoner swap involving 206 individuals from both sides was announced on Saturday, brokered by the United Arab Emirates. This is the eighth swap since the conflict began in 2022, bringing the total number of exchanged prisoners to 1,994.

Recent drone attacks have resulted in casualties on both sides, illustrating the ongoing violence and destruction in the region.
