The inauguration of a solar project in Sofi Woreda, Harari Region, costing over 8 million birr, marks a significant milestone in regional development. Led by the Minister of Water and Energy, Dr. Engineer Habtamu Etefa, the project introduces an 18-kilowatt solar energy system aimed at enhancing local infrastructure. Dr. Etefa emphasized the project’s role in expanding access to solar energy across rural areas, particularly benefiting health and education institutions lacking electricity nationwide.
This initiative not only introduces technological familiarity among students but also promotes a more equitable education system between urban and rural areas. Highlighting its cost-effectiveness and long-term sustainability, Dr. Etefa noted the project’s potential to serve the community well into the future.
In addition to powering local schools, the solar project will extend electricity access to the broader community, addressing longstanding electricity supply challenges. Ismael Yusuf, Head of Harari Enterprises Development and Industry Bureau, underscored the project’s transformative impact, particularly in improving educational facilities and resolving electricity shortages in the region.
