On Tuesday, search teams resumed efforts to find six people who disappeared off the coast of Sicily. They were on a luxury superyacht that sank early Monday morning. Divers in wetsuits and oxygen tanks returned to the site near Palermo to search underwater. The boat, with 22 people on board, sank during a violent storm. Fifteen people were rescued, including a mother who swam to safety with her one-year-old baby.

One body has been found, confirmed to be the ship’s chef. The missing passengers have been identified, including Mike Lynch, a tech entrepreneur, and his daughter, Hannah. Lynch was known as Britain’s “Bill Gates.” Others included Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of a London-listed insurer, and his wife Judy.

The ship sank after being hit by a storm, possibly a tornado or waterspout. The survivors described the ship capsizing quickly. Charlotte Golunski recounted losing hold of her daughter in the water but managing to keep her above the waves until they were rescued. Each six missing passengers are presumed to be in the below-deck cabins, as they have not been located in other parts of the wreckage.

Search efforts are ongoing due to the complexity of the situation, with divers working in short shifts due to the depth of the wreck. The focus remains on finding the missing passengers in the wreckage.
