Romania says Russian drone violated airspace during attacks on Ukraine

Romania reported that a Russian drone violated its airspace during nighttime attacks on Ukraine. The NATO member urged Moscow to stop this escalation. The incident happened while Russia was attacking civilian targets and port infrastructure across the Danube River in Ukraine. Romania deployed F-16 warplanes to monitor its airspace, with NATO allies informed. The Romanian Defense Ministry strongly condemned Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, calling them unjustified and against international law. Mircea Geoana, NATO’s deputy secretary-general and Romania’s former top diplomat, also condemned Russia’s violation of Romanian airspace. He stated that while there is no evidence of intentional attacks on NATO allies, these actions are irresponsible and dangerous. In Ukraine, two civilians died and four were injured in a Russian airstrike, with children among the wounded. Ukrainian air defenses shot down one cruise missile and 15 Iranian-made drones launched by Russia. Russian forces continued their push towards Ukrainian cities, according to Ukraine’s General Staff. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its troops had taken Novohrodivka.
