The Port of Seattle confirmed on Friday that a ransomware attack targeted them.

The attack happened on August 24. The Port, which runs the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, said they experienced system outages that indicated a possible cyberattack.

The Port is now saying that a criminal organization called Rhysida carried out the ransomware attack. Rhysida was also responsible for a cyberattack on the British Library last year. The Port refused to pay the ransom, so Rhysida might post stolen data on their darkweb site.

The Port is still investigating what data the attacker took. They suspect that some Port data was obtained in mid-to-late August. If any employee or passenger information was stolen, the Port will inform them.

TechCrunch’s Devin Coldewey flew through the airport a few days after the attack. He saw that many airport systems were still not working.
