Reuters reported on Wednesday that Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has granted clemency to 30 more individuals who were previously convicted for participating in protests. According to state news agency Belta, human rights activists estimate that there are currently approximately 1,400 individuals imprisoned in Belarus for speaking out against Lukashenko, who has been in power since 1994. Last month, Lukashenko, who recently celebrated his 70th birthday, pardoned a group of 30 prisoners, which included individuals who were either ill or elderly.
