Ethiopia has entered into an agreement with the United Nations to host an international conference on finance for development. The agreement was signed between Ethiopia and the United Nations to Host Finance the conference from July 15-19, 2016 E.C. The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma, Permanent Representative of Ethiopia to the United Nations, and Lee Junwa, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.

Ambassador Tesfaye Yilma emphasized that Ethiopia’s decision to Host Finance conference underscores. Its commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of United Nations processes and strengthening global cooperation. In response, Deputy Secretary General Lee Junwa acknowledged Ethiopia’s dedication and pivotal role in hosting such important gatherings.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the significance of the conference in mobilizing international support for financing the sustainable development goals. Ethiopia previously hosted the third financial development conference in Addis Ababa nine years ago. Which resulted in the adoption of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, a critical global framework for financing sustainable development.

The upcoming meeting in Addis Ababa will assess the progress made in implementing the Addis Ababa Action Agenda. It sets the stage for the fourth International Conference on Finance for Development scheduled to take place in Spain next year.
