Three law enforcement officials reported that a man pushed the muzzle of an AK-style rifle through the perimeter of Donald Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course while the Republican U.S. presidential candidate was playing a round. The Secret Service opened fire to protect Trump, who was unharmed and safe. The person dropped the weapon, fled in an SUV, and was later apprehended in a neighboring county. The incident occurred near the golf course, and no injuries were reported. Trump, who had a stepped-up security presence since a previous assassination attempt, was playing golf with Secret Service agents watching from a few holes ahead. The suspect was taken into custody by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office on a Northbound Interstate 95 near Palm City. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the situation and relieved to know that Trump was safe. Sen. Lindsey Graham, one of Trump’s top allies, spoke with Trump and mentioned that he was in good spirits. The suspect’s connection to the shooting is still being investigated.
