Former President Donald Trump spoke from behind bulletproof glass at a campaign rally in North Carolina. He painted a dark picture of the U.S.-Mexico border under Vice President Kamala Harris as president. Trump visited Arizona just before Harris accepted her party’s nomination. He falsely claimed that Harris supported open border policies and gave fake data on immigrant numbers.

He claimed that if Harris became president, she would allow more than 100 million illegal aliens into the country. Trump also described crimes committed by undocumented immigrants. Focusing on voter concerns about immigrants and the border is a key part of Trump’s campaign strategy. Meanwhile, Harris and Democrats are working on an immigration and border security platform.

House Rep. Tom Suozzi said the border is broken and the nation, built by immigrants, is a beautiful thing. Migrant crossings at the border surged last year, overwhelming cities. Democrats accused Trump of sabotaging negotiations on a Senate border bill. Biden signed an executive order on immigration restrictions in response.

Border concerns were highlighted at the Democratic convention. Biden’s tougher stance on the border has resulted in fewer migrant crossings. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott stopped sending migrants out of the state due to the impact of Biden’s policies.
