The Conservative Party of Canada deleted a video promoting Canadian values that mistakenly featured images of Russian fighter jets. The Defence Minister’s office confirmed that the jets were Russian Su-17 and Su-27 jets. The party admitted to making a mistake and pointed out past image controversies faced by the Liberals.

In the video, party leader Pierre Poilievre talks about a Canadian man driving to work who sees new fighter jets in the sky. The jets in the video were Russian, flying over Canada in a training mission, according to Poilievre. This raised concerns as Russia is currently involved in a conflict with Ukraine.

Critics, including members of the New Democrats, pointed out that the jets seemed Russian-owned and that other stock images used in the video were not Canadian. The New Democrats demanded that Poilievre condemn the use of fake digital content.

Conservative party spokeswoman Sarah Fischer mentioned that the video was removed, acknowledging that mistakes happen. She also referenced a past Liberal ad that faced scrutiny over its use of stock images.
