Bluesky continues to grow: The company announced on Friday morning that it had added 3 million new users, bringing the total user count to over 9 million.
In simpler terms, the social platform has grown by around 50 percent in the past week since a Brazilian court banned X (formerly Twitter). This ban made Bluesky the second most popular free iPhone app in Brazil, just behind Meta’s app Threads.
Bluesky also informed both old and new users that video support will be available “soon.”
The platform began as an initiative by Twitter to create an open social protocol, but it has now become an independent startup with venture backing and was fully opened to the public in February.
In a previous post about growth, Bluesky mentioned that 85% of its new users are from Brazil. However, bringing on so many new users quickly has caused some technical issues.
