Staff from The Canadian Press reported that the Bloc Québécois is prepared to negotiate with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s party for support during confidence votes now that the Liberal government’s confidence and supply agreement with the NDP has ended. The sovereigntist party, led by Yves-François Blanchet, has already made a list of demands. Bloc House Leader, Alain Therrien, mentioned that the party is pleased to regain its balance of power, stating that it is a “window of opportunity” now that the Liberals are truly a minority government. New Democratic Party Leader Jagmeet Singh’s withdrawal from the confidence and supply deal last week has provided an opening for the Bloc. While the Conservatives led by Pierre Poilievre have promised multiple confidence votes to trigger a general election, the Bloc’s strategy is to use their newfound standing to secure gains for Quebec.
