Staff from The Associated Press reported that three people died and four got seriously injured in an attack at a festival in Solingen, a city in western Germany. The police mentioned that the culprit is on the run, with reports indicating that a knife was likely used. The incident took place at a central square called Fronhof, where live bands were performing.

Solingen’s Mayor, Tim Kurzbach, expressed shock and sadness over the tragedy in a Facebook post. The attack occurred during the “Festival of Diversity,” which marked the city’s 650th anniversary. The festival, meant to last from Friday to Sunday, featured live music, cabaret, and acrobatics on several stages along central streets.

Solingen, with around 160,000 residents, is situated near larger cities like Cologne and Duesseldorf. Fatal stabbings and shootings are rare in Germany, although there was a stabbing incident on a train in 2021 that left several people injured.

In a related video report, police suggested that the suspect in the knife attack likely acted alone, and the motive remains unclear. Additional information was provided by Reuters for the report.
